miss b loves .......'Lunch in Paris' by Elizabeth Bard

I came across 'Lunch in Paris' in  WH Smith at the airport as I was searching for a good holiday read (with only ten minutes to boarding!) but I instantly knew this was just my kind of book.

'Lunch in Paris' (A love story with recipes) is a story about a young American woman who falls in love with a Frenchman called Gwendal, Paris and French food. Throughout the book there are mouth-watering recipes for the dishes she learns to create...pork spare ribs glazed in honey and rosemary, summer ratatouille, molten chocolate cakes.......

I like the way the recipes are part of the story. After reading about her mother-in-law's delicious poached cod, served at the family lunch, it was good to see the recipe just a few pages later.

'Lunch in Paris' is not just a love story, it's about discovering what is important in life and what it means to adopt a new country as your home. Having lived in France, I found that I could relate to much of what Elizabeth said - the excitement of living abroad, learning new customs, getting to grips with the language, making new friends.....In the tradition of memoirs like A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle and Tout Sweet by Karen Wheeler, this book is the perfect treat for anyone who loves France or who dreams of living there one day........

I often feel a little sad when I come to the end of a good book as I don't want the story to end but the bonus with this one is that you are left with a great little cookbook to add to the shelf with a list of wonderful new recipes to try ...........and...... I've just discovered Elizabeth Bard's lovely blog  Lunch in Paris  - Discovering Paris(and now Provence!)
  • Lunch in Paris is also available in other languages including German and Dutch - details in the blog

  27. I loved this book too! I felt very Parisian last summer when I'd take it with me to Starbucks to read it while sipping my cappuccino ;) I too hate it when a good book ends ... and often find that I rush out trying to find one with the same feeling as the last one because I want it to continue! I always have a book that I'm reading and have to have one waiting before each one is finished. Thanks for stopping by, sweets!

  37. I positively hated this book. The author is so self-important and tries to shock with her frivolous attitude to sex. I found it immature and annoying. That said, her recipes were excellent and I tried a few of them.

    1. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy this book and that you feel so strongly about it. I didn't get this impression and found it an enjoyable, light read.

  38. I like the sound of this book! "Meet me at the cupcake cafe" is also a novel with recipes throughout. It's quite the trend at the moment it seems?!

I know what you mean about finishing a book, I always feel a little deflated. There's always the next one to look forward to though! :D xx
