They certainly know how to do Christmas in Germany and during our recent visit to Munich it was so easy to get into the festive spirit!
Mini Christmas stockings at Café Luitpold |
I wandered around Viktualienmarkt where wreaths were piled high ready to be decorated.....
There were so many unusual decorations to admire........
This cute tree decoration had to come home with me too!......
She's wearing little wooden clogs! |
The nearby historic Schrannenhalle is the former Corn Exchange, now converted into a stylish retail and restaurant area including several upmarket delis.....
There are so many appetising food outlets but it was a good opportunity to enjoy a traditional Flammkuchen, a pizza-like dish topped with bacon, onion and crème fraîche ......perfect for a light lunch.......
In the basement, I stumbled across the vast Milka chocolate store ... a chocoholic's dream ... and an opportunity to stock up on some festive treats!
Saint Nicholas |
Time for coffee and a cupcake at a very cute little café called Wir Machen Cupcakes(literally We Make Cupcakes)
As we were in Bavaria, I had to try the Schwarzwälder Kirsch (Black Forest Cherry) cupcake which tasted just as good as it looks!
The florist shops in Munich are wonderful ........ particularly during the festive season.
I couldn't resist a little Christmas shopping .....but showing my gifts would spoil the surprise! I can show you the mini advent calendar and a new festive tea towel for Christmas Day.....
Café Luitpold is quite an institution and looked even more attractive at this time of year...
Blankets and faux fur seat covers are provided too.....but we opted for a seat indoors .....not quite brave enough to sit outside!
It's one of those places where you really would like to try every single cake!
A decision had to be made ........
Strawberry tart ....a great choice! |
Finally ......no trip to Munich during the winter would be complete without a warming glühwein (mulled wine) and we enjoyed ours in Amares, the tiniest bar off the main street.
The perfect way to end our impromptu long weekend away!
Such a very Holiday Spirit is here!!!

ReplyDeleteWell, well, well. It seems to me you made the most of that visit to Munich. You must be walking miles each day to work off all the delicious specialties you sample along the way ;-) You had me at Flammkuchen, even if mine usually come from Alsace, not Munich. So delicious, and easy to make! Thank you for all your visits chez moi this year. I am sorry I have not left messages here as often as I should have, but I also stop by with great pleasure. Bonne année, miss b.
