Don't be put off by the title........there's much more to this film than fishing!! Starring Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Kristin Scott Thomas, this is a British romantic comedy-drama from the director of Chocolat and the screenwriter of Slumdog Millionaire.......
The film was even more enjoyable as we watched it in our favourite local cinema in the small market town of Longridge, in the Ribble Valley.

The Palace Cinema is one of the oldest surviving cinemas in the North-West of England. It started life as a weaving shed in the 1860s and has been a music hall, cinema, roller skating rink and bingo hall before becoming a cinema once again. I love the traditional interior and ambiance....... the nostalgic Wurlitzer style music ....Everyone stands when the National Anthem plays before the film starts and they serve tea, coffee and hot chocolate in proper mugs(and for just 50 pence!!) There are even double seats at the back and an interval with ice cream on sale from a traditional usherette tray! The perfect cinema night out.......

Well, miss b, you have just made my day. Old fashioned movie theaters are on your mind - and mine - this week (see blog!) Thank you for pointing us to that delightful movie. With such a talented cast, how could it not be entertaining? Can't wait to see it too-- but sorry I won't be able to visit the Palace Cinema (sigh!) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Véronique! Having read your post this week, I can see that you really would like our local cinema but I'm sure you will enjoy Salmon Fishing in the Yemen wherever you see it!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for introducing me to this new movie! I have to go see it when I get back to the States this summer! Hope your week is going well.

I loved this movie!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to see this movie - I will have to wait till it comes out on DVD! I love that you have an old cinema to visit. I think it makes movie going so much more fun. My favourite haunt here in Sydney is The Dendy. It has just reopened after a major refit. I almost am too scared to go and check it out as I know it won't be the same anymore :(
ReplyDeleteA happy weekend to you, Stephie x
You know, you are right... the title of the movie did kind of scare me off. Thanks so much for the movie suggestion! OH and you should totally grow as many herbs as possible. I calculated how much I spent on purchasing herb plants.... 50 dollars total for 20 different varieties (I MAY have gone overboard.... but I like having options) but then I calculated how much I spent on fresh/dried herbs over the last year and that number was truly scary! Im so happy that someone else has a bit of a green thumb too and I hope that you end up purchasing a few more plants!

The flowers or berries from the Elder or Elderberry tree are used to make a cordial or syrup. It's delicious.
