The Dubai Metro is driverless and the world's longest fully automated metro network - 75kms. Most of the metro is elevated and provides amazing views of Dubai's spectacular skyscraper architecture.
The metro station architects, Aedas were asked to design an innovative, iconic structure reflecting Dubai's ancient traditions and finally agreed on a beautiful shell form inspired by the diving and pearl fishing heritage which led to Dubai's early prosperity. The roofs of all the stations are an illuminescent shell.............

The interior designers used the themes of earth, water, fire and air and I was particularly impressed with these eye-catching jellyfish shaped chandeliers at Khalid Bin Al Waleed station.
I love the contrast between the futuristic style of the metro station exterior with the interior of Al Ghubaiba station where the walls are lined with beautiful images depicting Dubai's rich cultural heritage .... windtowers, camels, traditional dress, horses....
There are even stylish light fittings with a traditional, arabic look.....
This station is very close to the Creek which explains this quirky sign at the entrance (carrying fish is not allowed on the metro!).....
The Metro makes moving around the city so much easier now - it's inexpensive, incredibly clean and so much better than sitting in a traffic jam and if you avoid the morning and evening rush hours there are even plenty of seats too!
That is an impressive metro line indeed. Last time I was in Dubai, they were still building it. I would love to revisit Dubai, there are always new things to discover in each visit : )
