En route to Singapore last month we took the opportunity to break the journey both on the way there and back. It's a seven hour flight from Manchester to Dubai and another seven hours on to Singapore.... A couple of long weekends in Dubai was definitely a good idea...an excuse to visit a few favourite spots...
I'd read that London's iconic Fortnum and Mason store had opened a branch in a prime location opposite the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. The terrace has a spectacular view of the Dubai Fountain too .....
The ground floor stocks a variety of teas, preserves and other treats...
The sophisticated Tea Salon on the first floor serves their famous afternoon tea and the second floor is a stylish ice cream parlour. As it was late in the evening, we made our way to the top floor for dessert and coffee....
It's not unusual to have a cappuccino served with a complimentary biscuit on the side, a mini macaron, madeleine, or for an Arabian touch, a succulent sweet date but a mini ice cream cone clipped to the saucer was definitely a first!
The following afternoon we headed to 'The Beach' leisure development(which I mentioned here) with its open air cinema, restaurants and shops along Jumeirah Beach near Dubai Marina. This new project continues to flourish and each time we visit there are more new openings. We were delighted to see that La Postreria, a Spanish chain was open for business. In March, it was not quite ready but we spotted the stylish outdoor furniture which had just been delivered .....
It was worth the wait......
Le Fournil de Pierre, also at 'The Beach' was the ideal spot for a quick bite on our final day .....a taste of France in the desert!
In the evening, beautiful new lanterns along the esplanade created a romantic Arabic ambiance.
Cavalli Caffè and Magnolia Bakery coming soon!
Ladurée too!! More than enough to satisfy my sweet tooth!

Oh, those lanterns are so cool. Very pretty designs. I loved the camel pictures. Can you believe that my mom rode the camels in Egypt when she was 70 years old? What an experience that was. I love the picture of the ice cream cone clipped to the saucer. What a clever idea. All the food here looks scrumptious. I know how much you enjoy your visits to this charming place.

Yikes, look at all the new up and coming restaurants - almost like home from home. Your images of Dubai never fail to disappoint, it really does look spectacular. You'd be the perfect person to visit with as you know all the good hot spots. The Beach leisure development sounds a treat. It was certainly a good idea to break up that long journey Singapore, how cool that you got to do this on the way there and back. Have a great week!
