miss b loves .........sweet treats in Alice's Wonderland

Quirky, delightful, imaginative, enchanting, nostalgic....a few adjectives which sum up Alices Tea Room in St Annes.

As soon as we were handed the giant playing card menus we knew we were in for a treat ......

...with numerous references to Alice in Wonderland....

The attention to detail is so impressive, from the clouds on the sky blue ceiling to the quirky light fittings .... tea cup chandeliers and the Mad Hatter's hats ......

A brother and sister on the next table were enjoying an after school treat .... a Mad Hatter's Afternoon tea and special 'Drink Me Potion'. It's not just the children who are enchanted by Alices though, it's a fun, nostalgic experience for adults too.

On each table a musical jewellery box not only holds sugar cubes and condiments but the cute tune adds to the fairytale ambiance too.

Our favourite feature .......the passageway to 'Wonderland' ........down the rabbit hole (whch in fact leads to the toilet!) What a genius idea!

Down the rabbit hole.....

Our hot chocolate was very special, made with Marimba chocolate, perfect for a chilly autumn afternoon.

It took me no time at all to choose the After Eight Cake ...a rich but very light chocolate sponge with mint frosting, covered in After Eight Mints!

How could we resist the Party Ring Cake! Another light sponge topped with iced shortcake biscuits .....memories of childhood birthday parties. On the way home, still feeling nostalgic, we just had to buy a packet of these favourites......

Cakes here are inspired by favourite sweets and biscuits .....Jelly Beans, Oreos, Jelly Babies, Turkish Delight, Midget Gems.......

Inventive and a change from the usual selection of cakes on offer in coffee shops and tearooms. Indulgent, yes ....but what a special sweet treat!

The enthusiasm, patience and friendliness of the staff was impressive too. We've found a magical place and ...... it's only a twenty minute drive from home!

I think it's maybe time to reread one of my favourite childhood classics!

Finally.... a few Alice in Wonderland quotes.....

"Every adventure requires a first step."
.....
Alice: This is impossible.
Mad Hatter: Only if you believe it is.
.....
"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date."
.....
"Curiouser and curiouser"
.....

  3. Miss B, I have to visit this place. I am a HUGE fan of Alice in Wonderland any and everything. They left no detail unturned! I mean the rabbit hole that leads to the toilet. I don't think I would EVER leave this place. Yummy sweet cakes, THE MENUS, gaaah the chandeliers! My eyes POPPED as I looked at each picture. What a fabulous place for tea & sweets!

  4. Take me to that tea room, please! It looks so cosy and it sure is a nice experience! The interior looks great but what I really liked, was the the passageway to 'Wonderland' ... down the rabbit hole! It is a genius idea indeed! The after eight cake looks so delicious, I'd have it too! There should be more places like this and you are lucky this one is only 20 minute drive from where you live! The funniest quote for me is: "I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date." as I am always late, haha!

  8. Do you know, I envy the business owners; how wonderful must it be to go to work everyday in that enchanting establishment.. A lot of thought appears to have gone into what they wanted the cafe to represent and feel like. I can easily see why it would be a hit with adults as well as children and it's certainly the perfect spot for someone with a sweet tooth like me.

  9. What a perfectly charming spot for tea. I love how they went all out with the whole Alice in Wonderland theme and every detail is just delightful. We have a similarly themed tea shop in NYC called Alice's Tea Cup but the decor isn't anywhere as detailed.

  10. Bonjour miss b. Thank you for stopping by chez moi today. My, my what a wonderful little place you have found. Kuddos to the owners for their creativity and attention to detail. I had to smile as the chef at my favorite local bistro is making a delicious "lapin à la moutarde" for me tonight. (I realize the white rabbit would not approve, but...)

  19. oh miss b, Jess LOVES Alice in Wonderland! What a delightful place this is. The After Eight cake looks so delicious, and the Party Ring cake just as good. The polka dot tablecloths, and the clocks on the wall, and the bunnies are so whimsical and makes this such a charming place to visit. And I love the famous quote, "I'm late, I'm late." Jess would absolutely love this tea room. Such a fun and sweet post today.

  24. Oh my goodness! I can't express how much I appreciate themed tearooms and this is no exception, how beautiful and interesting! The optical illusion created on the door is brilliant and the mass of marshmallows placed on your drink with the few chocolate buttons and gingerbread man positioned on the side is just delectable! Thank you for sharing this, I'm going to arrange a tearoom outing of my own for this upcoming week now! :)
