miss b loves...............'Driving Home for Christmas' by Chris Rea and other Christmas favourites

                 

Nothing gets me in the Christmas mood more than Chris Rea singing 'Driving home for Christmas' - one of my favourite Christmas songs.  

It was originally released in December 1988 but re-entered the charts in 2007. In 2009, a video was made in aid of Shelter and  all proceeds were donated to the charity. Celebrities who feature in the video include Martin Shaw, Mike Read, Gail Porter and Lionel Blair.

Former X Factor contestant Stacey Solomon recorded a version of the song which is currently being used in the Iceland supermarket Christmas commercials.

Rea wrote 'Driving Home for Christmas' many years before he first recorded it. Apparently his wife had come down to London to drive him home to Middlesbrough in her Mini to save money because it was cheaper than travelling by train. His inspiration for the song came as she and Rea were stuck in traffic as they were leaving London with a long drive ahead. Rea has described the song as a 'car version of a carol.'
