I've always had an interest in cars and from a very young age I knew all the makes and models.... I even had a collection of miniature Matchbox cars!
Wrea Green is a picturesque, award-winning village ........
Just ten minutes from home, it boasts the largest village green in Lancashire and a huge duck pond known to locals as 'The Dub'.
The green is the perfect setting for such an event and it was a gorgeous English summer's day ....
Only 10,000 were made with over 6,000 exported, mainly to the USA and Australia. It was fascinating to find out about the history of particular cars. This one had originally been built and shipped to Jersey in 1948 to avoid purchase tax then imported back in 1949.
There were several iconic E Type Jaguars on display all in immaculate condition ...
and I was delighted to see the distinctive shape of the Citroën DS which brought back memories of childhood holidays in France.
Surrounding the green there are so many charming thatched cottages with perfect gardens filled with traditional 'cottage garden plants'.....
Back to the cars ..... TVR is an independent British manufacturer of sports cars which were made locally in Blackpool......
A beautiful Rolls Royce caught my eye too.
This little cutie had brought along his own car too ......
Looking at the dashboards of the vintage cars, it's amazing just how sophisticated (and complicated) cars of today have now become ....
This event really did show the development of cars through the decades .......
All in a good cause too, as the proceeds of the car carnival went to the local Trinity Hospice.
The 1934 organ played traditional fairground music which added to the retro ambiance....
Prizes for the winning cars too ........
Back home and the sun was still shining.... the first time this year to enjoy a gin and tonic outside .....
.....a new one to try... Opihr Oriental Spiced London Gin....
What an exotic label! |
Let's hope this is the start of a long hot summer ......
What fun! the village looks so pretty and the cars so jolly!

ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous post! One of my favourite things about summer, is exploring a new town/village and stumbling across a classic car convention, complete with burgers cooking nearby.. thanks for the wonderful reminder! :)

ReplyDeleteI have always loved vintage cars too. I especially love these fiery red ones! How nice that the proceeds of the car carnival went to the local hospice. What a wonderful thing to do. I have no interest in modern cars, and if I will ever again byy myself a car ( I live in a center of Zagreb so I don't need a car) it will be some oldtimer, maybe an old porche carrera ... or an MG.. great great post!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't drive but I love vintage cars nonetheless. It feels as if I used to own one back in possibly the period I once belonged: 30s to 50s. What a great way to spend the day. Apparently it will indeed be an unusually hot summer. Not suprised as we didn't have a really wintry winter. Have a lovely day x
ReplyDeleteI love classic car shows! There is one in my small town about once a month :)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I also have a weakness for cars of this cause I understand it really how excited you were about this exhibition! There were indeed wonderful old cars - old cars makes me always dream about how it was at such time to drive and to travel ...

What a lovely and unexpected day out! My Dad had a model E type Jag, but Jag's don't do well in Australia - the engine tends to overheat fairly quickly, so he sold it (this was in the late 70's).
ReplyDeleteLove that gin bottle - I'd buy it just for the drinks table! xx
Those cars are incredible!

Awesome cars!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Miss B! This was a lovely walk through what I consider a stunning place, only seen in photos, books and in my imagination. England is a destination I must plan for in the near future, because cottages, ponds, nature, all that your post is wrapped up in, I love! And I too always had a passion for cars as a child. I love that little toy car the darling little chap is driving! teeeehee
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly for coming to visit me. I too love that beach hut in blue and white! Have a stunning day, Anita
Love old crock rallies. Once in away they have them here too and love to go and see them. Not tried this Gin as you say the label looks exotic.

I do love me some vintage cars. I went to a similar event at the NEC a while back - I took my dad because he's even more of a fan than I am, especially Jaguars. They feature in some of the James Bond movie don't they; I know the TVR did. At one time you still saw them on the roads but they're a rare spot now. A girl on Instagram always takes piccies of them when she stumbles across them. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for your lovely and interesting comment!

Oh Miss B., thank you for coming by this morning! I know that if I ever get over to England (and I know I will!), it will exceed my expectations. My trip to France 11 years ago certainly was beyond my dreams, because I just love the meeting of imagination and reality. The two mix into a great experience and I do adore the charm that I have come to know and love thanks to blogging! Enjoy your day! Anita
ReplyDeleteVintage cars seem to have so much more charm than modern ones in my opinion. This must've been such a treat for a car aficionado like yourself to chance upon :)

I'm not a car girl - in fact, I've never even owned one and I only drive a few times a year - but I do love vintage cars. I find the dashboards and controls particularly fascinating. We're so used to everything being digital now, it's easy to forget just a few short generations ago, all of those controls were so very different!
