We were blessed with amazing weather in London before Christmas. The clear blue skies and sunshine were quite unexpected as back home in the North it had been grey and wet for days (and we returned to grey, wet days too!)
St Paul's Cathedral |
As we were staying near Kensington Gardens, it was an opportunity to have a morning walk (and we needed the exercise, especially after a full English breakfast!)
The Italian Garden, Kensington Gardens |
It really was more like a spring day .......and the pastel coloured houses in Notting Hill looked even prettier against the blue cloudless sky...
'Young Dancer' by Enzo Plazzotta opposite the Royal Opera House |
I'm always fascinated by the human statues too in Covent Garden ....
Seven Dials, just five minutes from here is the perfect area for a stroll, shop and of course a coffee.
There's even a Pierre Hermé should you be craving a few macarons!
I can recommend Monmouth Coffee Company although there always seems to be a queue!
Another favourite though is Timberyard. London really does have a great coffee culture now!
I had heard that Eric Lanlard had opened a cake boutique and café called Cake Boy in London and we were determined to find it. It's a little out of the way in Battersea Reach but well worth the journey. The cakes, as we expected, are divine...
Our final choice ....after much deliberation...
Last year, during the Taste of Dubai event we had the pleasure of meeting Jean-Christophe Novelli and Eric Lanlard. They took the time to pose for photos and chat in between their cookery demonstrations
Here is Eric Lanlard signing our new book ....
His café lounge is very bright and glamorous.....
There's a kitchen where his baking classes take place (with equally glamorous, colour coordinated Kitchen Aid mixers!)
I couldn't resist taking a very special cupcake home ...
.....and surprisingly, it travelled very well and arrived home in one piece!
Delicious chocolate....with a touch of sparkle and a miniature bar of chocolate on the side!
I think I'll need to attend several of those classes to recreate anything vaguely like that spectacular cupcake!

ReplyDeleteI can definitely recommend a trip to Cake Boy. The Pierre Hermé featured here is at Seven Dials not far from Covent Garden. There is another branch in Belgravia too I think.

The pastel coloured buildings are so beautiful, it can brighten up a residence so drastically! I saw the 'human statue' at Covent Garden as well and was so curious at the time as to how that was done! Cake Boy is a new introduction for me, but gosh that looks tasty :)

It looks indeed like a spring day on the pictures! You have chosen really a perfect day for your London visit and again all pictures are much better than usual postcards <3 During I watched your post I remembered the time when I visited London ... as it is so long ago, namely nearly 20 years, I really should do it again :) Thanks for inspiring me and enjoy your weekend.

Looks like a perfect visit...the sweets look SO yummy!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI do relish the fact that I'm only 80 minutes away from London, because despite this it really is a whole different world to Birmingham with its cafes and restaurants, architecture and imposing buildings. I'm always taking pictures of the pastel coloured bricks and mortar and like you say they blossom in the sunlight. Wow! a queue outside a coffee shop - I don't drink coffee so i'll never get it, but i have queued outside a juice shop before which was just stupid in my opinion. I'll have to look out for Cake Boy the next time I'm in London because i always use the trip as an excuse to have treat, or two.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous day in London-that sky is so blue! I enjoy walking the neighborhoods, just like you. There is so much local color to soak in. You always find the best spots and those decadent desserts are making my mouth water. Happy Sunday!

ReplyDeleteLondon is a fantastic city, and in sunny days it is really beautiful...I have been there several times and I agree: there is so much to discover around every corner!!
ReplyDeleteGreat sharp photos...
I went to Cake Boy solely because of the piece you wrote here. You're right, it is absolutely AMAZING! In a way I'm glad I don't live too close to it because I'd definitely be in there every day and that would be disastrous for my waistline, lol! x
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. I'm sure I would be a regular too if I lived nearby!
