A few weeks ago we spent a Sunday in the English Lake District but the main purpose of the visit was afternoon tea at Holbeck Ghyll, a lovely English country house hotel.
This was very much a traditional afternoon tea with a selection of finger sandwiches and cakes served on classic china.
My favourites............
Smoked salmon sandwich, lemon tart, scone and chocolate éclair |
Of course I also liked the brownies, carrot cake, fruit cake, shortbread...........
The standard of food and service was excellent and the view of Lake Windermere(the largest natural lake in England)from our window seat was 'the icing on the cake' even on a very dull day!!
Maybe next year we might have the chance to sit out on the terrace....
or even better...........stay for the weekend and enjoy the spa........
P.S. Just in case you were wondering....no we didn't eat everything (that would have been greedy, wouldn't it??) but before we left we were presented with a cute box containing the cakes we didn't manage......

As you may have guessed.....miss b loves afternoon tea!!!!!

I love afternoon tea. It's been a while since I've had the whole shebang and when I decided to go to the local tea room which does the full works, I found it had closed down :o( So I shall just admire and savour your photos - it's better for the waistline anyway.
ReplyDeleteLove spending afternoons like these...such a beautiful and quaint location and everything looks yum and inviting. Hope you had a wonderful trip away!
ReplyDeleteThose are all my faves esp the wee sambos (and I would have eaten everything) The Lake District is so gorgeous , would love to venture back there again and do some walking eating and sipping. Lovely shimmery photos you have taken there! Just saw a really funny mockumentary set up that way with the Alan Partridge guy, so clever and real.
ReplyDeleteHow good is an afternoon tea!? I had one with my girlfriends for my birthday last year. Loved it! Something about those finger sandwiches... I'm sure sandwiches taste better when they're cut like that! x

Hi Miss B:-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable place. You made me feel like being there right away. Would you believe that sometimes we get tired of sun in Florida??? (spoiled, totally spoiled). Let me know "how much sun" you need. I will check with the US Post Office if they accept a special delivery.
Thanks for sharing with us these goodies. The salmon was delicious (Scottish I presume!?).
Can't wait to see your photos of Oman. I fell in love with this country some years ago. It's magical. I hope you had a wonderful trip. Pics, pics!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful 'Afternoon Tea' post. Those sandwiches look so yummy, and I can't remember the last time I had a chocolate eclair. I love them! Nel and Jess want me to go to the Queen Mary Ship and have tea the next time I am there. They had a great time. That is so nice that they gave you a little box of cakes to take home.
